Devil’s Pool

Swim on the edge of the Victoria Falls

Devil's Pool is a unique natural swimming pool, right on the edge of the Victoria Falls. At the very spot where the water falls over the edge, there's a shallow pool with minimal current. Do you dare to take a dip?

It’s called Devil’s Pool. The name speaks for itself. This natural pool is right on the edge of the famous Vic Falls in Africa. It’s definitely one of the weirdest places to take a swim, not to mention dangerous. You really have to keep your wits about you.

On the Zambian side of the river the water is almost still near the bank of the river. Please be aware: the current is minimal, but you still need to be cautious. You can swim to mere centimetres away from the edge, and look over the edge to see how the water right beside you plunges into the deep.

When you walk along the Zambezi River, you can’t miss it. It’s a fantastic photo opportunity. Devil’s Pool is really for daredevils. It is only possible to do this in the dry season. Make sure you check if it’s safe to swim, because sometimes the water is too high and the current is too strong…

Location of Devil’s Pool

The Devil's Pool is on the Zambia side. Whoever walks along the river on the Zambian side will see the Devil's Pool automatically. You can just take photos and see people swimming. And yes, it provides special photo moments. Really something for the daredevil.

You can also easily visit the Devil's pool from neighbouring Zimbabwe. For example, you can cross the bridge on foot. You must bring your passport if you want to cross the border.

Be aware

Note: The current is minimal, but there is always a current. Check in advance how strong the water flow is, because you cannot always swim in the Devil's Pool.
