Fiji

Famous Melanesian islands in the South Pacific

Fiji: it doesn’t get more exotic than this. Tropical beaches, palm trees, steep mountain peaks with lush green forests. Fiji has hundreds of islands to explore, and lots of unique accommodation.

Fiji is made up of over 330 volcanic islands, and 106 of those are inhabited, the rest are deserted and idyllic. The largest islands are Viti Levu, with the capital Suva, and Vanua Levu.

You can find a lot of unique accommodation in Fiji, such as over-water bungalows. They’re not cheap, but definitely something to put on your Bucket List.

You’ll notice that many islands are quite mountainous, and the peaks can reach up to 1.300 meters. The highest point is Mount Tomanivi, previously known as Mount Victoria (1.324 m).

And if you go to Fiji, make sure you visit the Mamanuca Islands, west of Viti Levu. It’s an island group of about 20 islands and 7 of these are flooded at high water. Many travellers are convinced this is most beautiful island group of all of Fiji.
