This town is called the hiking capital of the world. This is because it is the gateway for famous walks. Think of the Milford Track, but also the Routeburn Track and the Kepler Track.
But, there are also many day trips possible. And they are very highly regarded. For example, you can walk along the Te Anaumeer, which is very worthwhile.
You can see glowworms in caves near Te Anau. These wonderful animals glow in the dark. The Te Anau Glowworm Caves are located along the shores of Lake Te Anau. You can go on an excursion with a guide, so that you learn everything about the wonderful animals.
