Mahali Mzuri was elected the best hotel in the world in 2022. It is a luxury tented camp in an area popular for safaris in Kenya. It is located in the Olare Motorogi Private Reserve, which is part of the famous and immense Masai Mara National Reserve.
A safari camp is a (usually) luxurious place to spend the night in the middle of nature. So you can relax after your safari and enjoy the most beautiful environment with all the wild animals. It is a fitting end to an often beautiful day.
The well-known website Travel + Leisure conducts an annual survey of the best hotels according to travellers. And Mahali Mzuri at the Olare Orok Conservancy turned out to be the winner.
Mahali Mzuri is owned by the famous Sir Richard Branson. He is known for, among others, Virgin Records and Virgin, which offers space travel. Branson had the accommodation built in consultation with the local population. The camp provides work so that more people can follow education and can develop themselves. In addition, the camp is built sustainably, with a minimal impact on nature and ecology.
The Mahali Mzuri was opened in 2011. It offers 12 luxury tents that can accommodate up to 24 guests. The tents are equipped with pure luxury. Each tent has a large swimming pool, local accessories with lots of art, leather furniture, while you sleep in a high-quality bed. Each tent also has an observation deck, so you can get a good look at the wildlife.
The famous Big Five are found in this part of Africa. These animals belong to the Big Five. Other wildlife that you can find here is the African wild dog, a rare predator that is regularly seen. But also giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and countless species of antelope.
This kind of luxury safari camp will not be cheap. Think $1,850 for one night per accommodation. It does include all meals and two safaris with a private jeep. It's a lot of money, but you also get a lot in return. And you support the locals.
