The Ilulissat Icefjord on Greenland is unique. It’s an incredibly large fjord; around 40 kilometres long and 7 kilometres wide. You have to see it to believe it.
The Ilulissat Icefjord is unimaginably beautiful. Literally so. The combination of seeing and hearing the huge icebergs calving from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier into the fast-flowing glacier stream, make this this location an impressive natural phenomenon.
The icefjord is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. You can do some hiking, take a boat tour, or hop in a kayak. Whichever you choose, you will be impressed.
Polar bears live in Greenland, but they are only spotted occasionally in this part of Greenland. You do have a good chance of seeing whales. Check out my tips for whale watching in Greenland.
The Ilulissat Icefjord is near Disko Bay, around 250 kilometres north of the polar circle. The village of Ilulissat is located right on the ice fjord.
