Tram 28 is legendary in Lisbon. Hop on board and ride through popular neighbourhoods such as Graça and Mouraria. It is best to go early in the morning, when you can see how the city awakens.
This tram is world famous. The reason is simple; it will show you the best of the city in Portugal. And, in a cheap way too.
And Tram 28 is one of the longest journeys through the city, which is why it is so popular. In the summer maybe too popular. There can be long queues at the various stops. But in the spring and autumn this is not so bad and you can often hop on.
Tram 28 (officially called Electrico 28 and often referred to as 28E) takes you through popular neighbourhoods such as Graça and Mouraria. And it takes you up the hill, so you don't have to walk yourself.
The best tip is to hop on at Praça Martim Moniz early in the morning. This is partly to avoid the rows of tourists. Stop, among other things, at the famous Castelo de São Jorge, look out over the city and continue your journey back later.
Or go in the evening; or at nightfall. The tram ride will be like a fairytale.
Another good stop is the Feira da Ladra flea market. Here you can shop, haggle and be amazed. It is located along the route of Tram 28 at the Arco de Sao Vicente.
