The Erta Ale Volcano in Ethiopia is one of the largest active volcanoes in the world, and is located in the hostile Danakil Desert. It’s a unique place where you can see the hot magma from the side of the crater on top. But the entire surrounding landscape is unique.
When you make a trip out to the Erta Ale Volcano, you’ll be amazed. The landscape is alien, hostile, but above all it’s beautiful. This is a classic volcanic landscape.
Everything here is about that 613-metre high peak of a volcano. Erta Ale is a basaltic shield volcano in the Afar Depression, and the most active volcano in Ethiopia. It is one of only four volcanoes in the world with a lake of lava on top, and it’s an impressive sight.
Erta Ale is in the Danakil Desert, in the Afar triangle, in the north-east of Ethiopia.
