Ark of the Covenant

Is this golden chest hidden in Ethiopia?

Ethiopians believe the Ark of the Covenant is located in Axum. It's in a heavily guarded church cloaked in mystery and secrecy. Men may approach the church, but women are not allowed. It's a wondrous place in Ethiopia.

Researchers have been in disagreement over the verity that the Ark of the Covenant is located in Axum in Ethiopia. Nearly 50 million Orthodox Christian Ethiopians believe it is safeguarded in the treasury of the small church of Saint Mary of Zion, brought here by the Axumites from Israel.

Tourist can get within tem meters of the church, but no closer, after a Turkish tourist tried to climb the fence around it. The treasury is heavily guarded, only a few monks are allowed access to the ark, and they stay very tight-lipped about it. Nobody else has ever seen the ark, so there is no way of proving, or disproving, its existence.

The truth is that the church has a mystical feel, especially with the many religious people who travel here.

Be aware

Only men may approach the church, women are not allowed in this area.
