Swimming with sharks and stingrays

These creatures come to the boat for a feed, and you can jump in and join them

Snorkeling with sharks and rays is possible at the island of Caye Caulker in Belize. The excursion to Shark Alley can be booked at numerous places, including hotels.

Nurse sharks of almost two meters and dangerous-looking stingrays. And you're invited to join them for a snorkel, or rather, a swim. This excursion is one of the highlights of your visit to the famous Belize Barrier Reef.

Nurse sharks of nearly six feet and terrifying-looking stingrays. And you can snorkel with it (even if it is more swimming).

The animals have been fed here for years, so you see more animals here than usual. The huge animals swim strikingly close to you. Sometimes they touch you, you'll notice that the skin of the shark is like sandpaper.

What does the shark and ray tour look like?

Every day boats from Caye Caulker go to Shark Alley. This is the place where the nurse sharks and rays like to gather. You also see many stingrays here.

After arriving on the spot you put on your snorkeling gear and flippers. A mask is also necessary to see the animals properly. Next is to slide gently into the water. This in order not to disturb the animals.

The water is extremely clear. So you immediately see animals swimming in front of you. You also see a lot of fish trying to get some food.

Keep in mind that the animals are fed and it will be chaos. Sharks and rays swim fast to get some of the meal. You are not allowed to come between the animals. This is for your own safety.

It is a wonderful sight to see these animals up close. If you stay calm you will notice that the rays and sharks come close to you. Which is very impressive. And perfect for photos. So don't forget an underwater camera.

Be aware

This activity isn’t dangerous, they have never had any incidents. But stingrays do have poison in their tails, and they may use them to strike when provoked. So do be careful when you jump into the water.
