You can’t miss the classic cars in Cuba, which are mostly used as taxis. So it’s easy to hitch a ride in one of them in the capital of Havana but also in the country, and it’s relatively cheap too.
Ever been in a black-and-white 1959 Chevrolet Belair? Or a Plymouth from the forties? In Havana you will find that many taxis are classic American cars from the forties and fifties.
It’s quite an experience, because they are remarkably well maintained. You might hear a creak or a squeak here and there, but that’s part of the fun. In Havana there are special tours in classic cars.
A tour through the old town with many stops and a chat with the driver really completes this unique experience. Hail a cab and ask for a tour.
Make sure you agree on a price before you head off, so you don’t get taken for a ride – well, the wrong kind of ride. Then, sit back and enjoy.
Incidentally, you also have the option to get behind the wheel of a classic car in Havana. At various places in the city you can steer with a guide sitting next to you. This is usually very short, but a unique experience.
