Rwanda is usually on the people’s travel itinerary for the mountain gorilla. This country in Central Africa has a past of civil unrest.

In the capital Kigali you can still see the remains of the recent civil war. During the nineties, approximately 1 million (or more) Tutsis were killed by the Hutus. One of the largest genocides in the last centuries. You can visit the museum and get confronted by the state the country was in. But it’s intriguing how the country has resolved most of its issues.

A large part of Rwanda is covered by rainforest. You can see many different animals here, including the mountain gorilla. A species on the brink of extinction.

I travelled through Rwanda and visited the mountain gorilla in Viruga National Park, amongst others.
