Sea sparkle on the Maldives is an amazing sight. Tiny bioluminescent crustaceans can turn several beaches on the islands blue. You can witness this weird phenomenon.
What is sea sparkle?
Sea sparkle happens in different places around the world. Tiny crustaceans give off a bioluminescence light that can turn beaches blue, especially in warmer weather.
The water lights up blue because of ostracod crustaceans. It’s a bit of a mystery as to why these tiny creatures glow, it might be to be to lure bigger predators to eat the creatures that would eat the ostracods, or perhaps to lure a mate. Whatever the reason, it looks amazing.
