Street Food in Mexico

Experience Mexico's delicious street food

When you walk around Mexico you can smell delectable scents. Street food is very popular in Mexico, and not just with the locals. Try a fresh dish from a street vendor, or have a feast in one of the street restaurants.

Tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, mezcal and tequila. Or beer such as Sol, Corona or Desperados. It's a very minimal summary of some of the things you can find in a Mexican kitchen.

Antojitos

In Mexico street food is known as antojitos. It’s prepared right in front of you and and to your taste: extra spicy, or the opposite, etc. Everything is fresh and delicious.

Different to other places

And of course, it’s quite different to what we know as ‘Mexican Food’ in other places around the world. Because what we know as ‘tacos’ are actually tortillas there, and they call tacos tostadas. And they don’t do nachos like we know them, they have totopos, which are tortillas that are cut into small pieces.

You should also try Huevos Rancheros for breakfast, and have a taste of Sopes (a kind of pancake) or Flautas (like tacos). Thankfully, the quesadillas, fajitas and burritos are pretty much the same as how we know them. The dishes vary per region, so if you make a tour of the country, you’ll get to try a lot of different Mexican food!
