Las Coloradas

Visit the amazing pink lake Las Coloradas

Las Coloradas is a remarkable pink lake in Mexico. It's named after the nearby fishing village, on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Its colour is entirely natural, not due to magic or human interference.

A pink lake in Mexico. Las Coloradas is just that. It is named after the nearby fishing village of Las Coloradas, which is located on the east side of Yucatán. And, no magic or human action is involved.

The wonderful brine shrimp

The bright pink colour is due to the red plankton and millions of anostraca, or fairy shrimp, who feed on the plankton. The lake is pink all year round. If you take a walk around the lake, you’ll also see some very green lakes, coloured by the algae that live in there.

Visiting Las Coloradas

The phenomenon can be seen all year round. If you walk around here, you also see special green lakes. This color is due to other algae that live in the water here.

Location of the pink lakes of Las Coloradas?

Las Coloradas is located in the north of Yucatan about three hours from Cancun. A visit can be combined with one of the best excursions in Mexico: Swimming with whale sharks at Holbox Island.
