A night safari is a unique experience. You head out in a jeep, just like a safari during the day, but there’s a spotter who shines a spotlight around, looking for the reflection of eyes, and movement in the bush…

Different animals are active during the night than during the day. But you’ll also see the ‘usual’ wildlife such as hyenas, antelopes and numerous other animals. If you want you can try and use the spotlight yourself to find active animals yourself, but it’s not exactly easy.

It gives you an idea of the skills of the spotters, who can find animals even in the dark. Night safaris are only permitted in the parks adjoining Maasai Mara, not in the national reserve itself. And if you’d like to see more of the nocturnal activities of Kenyan wildlife, you can spend the night out there as well.
