Rakotzbrücke Devil’s Bridge

Its Reflection Creates a Wonderful Circle in the Water

The Rakotzbrücke (Devil’s Bridge) dates from 1860. This bridge has become very famous through social media. It is now one of the most famous bridges in Germany and in the world. The reason is simple; the reflection in the water makes a circle.

Scientists have recently discovered that the circle is not entirely correct. The bridge and the reflection were mapped with measuring equipment. It's an almost perfect circle. If you stand in front of it and the water is calm, you will see it, although it is difficult at rougher weather.

The bridge is made of stones that are found in the region. This bridge is often also called the Devil's Bridge, although it is not entirely clear why. This may have to do with the reflection, but also with the past.

Best Time for Rakotzbrücke

The Rakotz Bridge from up close.

The bridge can be visited all year round. But in autumn the leaves turn yellow and red, giving this place something extra. Keep in mind that the bridge has become very well known through social media, so you will not be alone.

It is best to go early in the morning. Then you even have a chance of mist on the water; which is also very beautiful.

Accommodation at Rakotzbrücke

Most people are only here for an hour. However, the best light is early in the morning or late afternoon. Then a hotel or apartment nearby is useful. There are various options for a reasonable price.

Visiting Rakotzbrücke

The bridge can be found in the Azalea and Rhododendron Park near Kromlau in eastern Germany. You have to take a short walk, but then you will automatically see it over the water. Incidentally, it is strictly forbidden to walk across the bridge, due to the risk of collapse.
