Múlafossur Waterfall

The Múlafossur Waterfall is one of the most beautiful places in the world. You will find this unique waterfall in Gásadalur. The water falls into the Atlantic Ocean. With heavy winds, the wind blows the water up again. This is an unusual sight.

The waterfall is a 5-minute walk from the village of Gásadalur. However when you continue walking along the coast see the waterfall, the village and the sea. This picture has been doing well on Instagram for years, and is impressive even in bad weather.

When the sun is shining, watching the sunset is picture perfect. Simply go for a walk and you’ll see. You can then take a photo with the sun in the water or just behind the mountain.

Sørvágsvatn Lake

The Sørvágsvatn Lake lies above the sea.

The famous Sørvágsvatn Lake is also called Leitisvatn. This 6 km lake is well known from social media. It is remarkably close to the sea and appears to float above the sea. This lake is also called Floating Lake. Although you have to be at a specific spot to view this. Making it a very popular spot.

You're standing on an abyss to take this well-known photo. It's a place where you can experience strong winds. This can make it dangerous. So precaution should be taken. You can see the lighthouse from the plane on arrival. You can easily visit the lighthouse. But you won’t be the only one as it can be busy.

Mykines Lighthouse

The island of Mykines is known for its white lighthouse. It is a wonderful walking area. Where you mainly walk along the cliffs. With a constantly changing view, and you will have many opportunities to capture the striking lighthouse in the photo. Remarkably, the lighthouse is not at the very tip.

Bøsdalafossur Waterfall

The Bøsdalafossur waterfall is special. The water falls about 30 meters over the rocks down into the Atlantic Ocean. This waterfall is not easy to view. And you won’t see it in its full magnificence. But only parts of it. Which is also really beautiful. There is a hiking trail from where you can see the waterfall from the side. You have to pay a high entrance fee to get there. Reviews have shown that not everyone thinks it's worth the money. Check around and choose if you want to do this.

Puffins

The Faroe Islands are known for their animal inhabitants. The gouty puffin is encountered in various places on the islands. Especially on Mykines you can see  thousands of these animals breeding. The wildlife also includes the beautiful gannets. You can reach the island from Sørvágur, by boat or helicopter. Please note that this excursion will take an entire day.

Funnings Kommuna

Funnings Kommuna is known as the highest spot of the Faroe Islands. The Slættaratindur has a top of 882 meters. It is also the second highest mountain: Gráfelli (856 meters). This is a lovely walking area. Along the way, you'll come across several vantage points. With a view of the steep walls of the island, the sea and often an imposing sky.

Drangarnir

Drangarnir are two rocks in the sea near the Faroe Islands. The rocks are officially called Stóri Drangur (large rock) and Lítli Drangu (small rock). Stóri Drangur is special because of the natural arch. The seawater has punched a hole in the rock which is getting bigger.

There are two ways to see these rocks. The rocks can be seen from the coast. This can be very impressive in rough weather. The water can be rough but also mirror-smooth in good weather. And can then be done by boat. The two steep rocks lie between the small island of Tindhólmur and the island of Vágar on the Faroe Islands.

Nykur horse

The Nykur is a work of art in Lake Sørvágsvatn. It is a horse that appears in the folklore of the Faroe Islands. According to legend, the Nykur comes half out of the water to seduce passerbys. After which the animal drowns the people in the lake. The art was created by local artist Pól Skarðenni. It first appeared in Sørvágsvatn lake in 2017. Nowadays it is a popular place for a photo.

You can see the island of Vágar from the air. A helicopter tour of the Faroe Islands is the best way to get a good view of the islands.

You can also see the famous waterfall Bøssdalafossur, Lake Fjallavatn, Víkar, Mykines and the rocks of Trælanípa. The flight takes 20 to 30 minutes and is certainly not cheap but it is unique. The helicopter tour is weather dependent.

The rocks along the coast are extremely rugged. If you want a good view, you have to get on the water. The trip to the Vestmanna Bird Cliffs is then a good option. On top of the often uncharted steep rocks you can see sheep walking. 

Several species of birds live on the rocks. Birds such as seagulls, but also thousands of other birds. Think puffins, gannets, guillemots and auks.
