Tower Bridge

The oldest and most impressive pedestrian walkway in London

The Tower Bridge was built in 1894. It is the oldest pedestrian bridge in London and is next to the Tower of London. You can see the resemblance in the towers, hence why the bridge was named after it.

Building the Tower Bridge was quite a challenge at the time. It's 1894. The bridge had to be opened and closed, so that is how architect Horace Jones conceived this 244 meter long design.

Architect Jones also drew two towers of 65 m height, built on either side of the Thames. And the towers had to match the Tower of London, hence the resemblance. The famous bridge still operates and has regularly ships passing through.

The view of the city is perhaps the most authentic from atop. Not even the London Eye can match that. On the Tower Bridge you are actually above the river Thames and you look across the city. There is an exposition here as well: the pedestrian walkways of London.
