Bohemian Switzerland National Park is a somewhat confusing name for this nature reserve in the Czech Republic, just near the German border. It’s definitely one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Europe. And perfect for walking.
The local nature is protected in the park and human intervention is only allowed to a limited extent. This is a wonderful place to walk, there are numerous hiking trails. And you have the chance to encounter animals such as fox, red deer, roe deer, badger and wild boar. I have collected my tips and the best attractions for Bohemian Switzerland National Park.
Bohemian Switzerland is a natural area full of vast forests, deep valleys, remarkable sandstone rock formations and spectacular views. It became a national park in 2000.
Most special is the Pravčická brána, the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. Do note: this is a popular tourist area and it can get quite busy here. The sunsets here are often spectacular and can result in great photos.
Děčínský Sněžník is met 726 meter de hoogste top van het natuurgebied. Je vindt hier ook een uitkijktoren, van waaraf je heel ver over het gebied kunt kijken. Dit is een perfecte plek voor foto’s.
The Kamnitzklamm is a small gorge in the park. It has been carved out by water, by the river and rainwater. A hiking trail that has been constructed and runs through the gorge. It is made of wood.
You can enter the gorge with a boat and a captain. This is the best excursion in the area. You can clearly see how rough the area is. And it is a nice trip for photos. Especially if you go at the end of the day. You will find the Kamnitzklamm near Hřensko.
The Marienfels is a beautiful viewpoint at Jetřichovice. It's a good place to see the vastness of this area.
The Edmund Gorge is a wonderful walking area in the park. Here you can also see how a river has carved a valley in the rocks.
The National Park is located just across the border at the Saxon Switzerland National Park in Germany near Děčín on the Elbe. From Prague it is about 120 kilometers, or a 1.5 hour drive to the north.
