Plitvice Lakes are full of snow and ice in winter. And that is incredibly beautiful. So you can also visit Plitvice Lakes well in January and February. Plitvice is the oldest national park in Croatia and according to many the most beautiful park. This article decribes the best tips for visiting the Plitvice Lakes in winter with snow.

Croatia knows sub-zero temperatures in winter, which causes the waterfalls of Plitvice to (partially) freeze. It may also snow, which creates wonderful scenes, have a look at the photos below.

Plitvice is famous for its 90 waterfalls and 16 lakes, mostly visited in spring, summer and autumn. What many people don’t know is that in winter Plitvice is transformed into a white wonderland. That is, not the entire winter, but for a few weeks every year. it makes planning a trip a bit more difficult, but it is doable.

Dozens of Waterfalls Freeze in Winter

Due to the cold, the dozens of waterfalls in Plitvice sometimes freeze (partially). Many of the lakes are full of ice. The result is that this park is completely changing.

Occasionally there's snow falling. I visited Plitvice Lakes recently in  summer. It is a completely different picture. Plitvice is beautiful in all seasons; so in winter, spring, summer and autumn.

If you want to visit early in the morning, it is useful to spend the night in the region. You can even stay so close that you can walk to the falls. Make sure you book on time, otherwise the hotels, holiday homes and apartments are fully booked.
