The Sloth Sanctuary is a sanctuary for sloths in Costa Rica. Here injured animals as well as young animals that have been orphaned are taken care of. And you can visit them.
The only sloth sanctuary in the world can be found in Costa Rica. There are different kinds of sloths that live in the canopies of Central and South America. The sanctuary rescues and cares for these cute-looking creatures, and is a research centre as well.
In this sanctuary they care for the sloths that are injured or orphaned. Sloths are very cute, but because the animals are so slow they are under threat by traffic. Also, their natural habitat is disappearing for development.
You can visit the sanctuary and go on a guided tour with the caretakers and see the animals. The caretaker will explain the differences between the two-toed and three-toed sloth. Also, you will get a lot of information on their wellbeing and the challenges the animals are facing.
Like road constructions and the disappearance of their natural habitat. As a consequence, there has been an increase in the number of sloths being brought to the sanctuary in the past years.
You can also ride a boat through their habitat and learn all about their lives and challenges. The only sloths you will not see are the ones that will be released back into the wild, so they do not get used to humans.
You can even adopt a sloth. It is a popular thing to do as you support the sanctuary in being able to rescue sloths and improve their wellbeing.
