The Caño Cristales River in Colombia is unique. Every year there is something unique to see. Much of the river then turns into a living painting. The bottom of the river changes in various colors, making it seem almost unearthly.
When can I see this?
In the months of July, August and September, right between the wet and the dry season, this river turns into a liquid rainbow. This is due the colour explosion of a water plant: the endemic Macarenia Clavigera.
In winter there isn’t enough sun and the river flows too fast, but when summer starts the plants blossom and bloom. This brings many colours, mostly red but also white, black and yellow.
