Macau is often compared to Las Vegas in the US. There are many casinos in this city, in all shapes and sizes and, just like in Vegas, there are many shows you can go and see.

Legal gambling

Macau is the only place in China where you can gamble legally, which is why there are lots and lots of Chinese tourists here. It leads to an intriguing atmosphere, so take your time to soak it all in. Sometimes it feels just like being in a movie!

Macau is not really a destination for backpacking or spending weeks, but it’s fun for a city trip. Just like in Vegas, the hotels are exorbitant. For example, there’s The Venetian, which has a complete lagoon inside to resemble the waterways of Venice.

Portuguese history

Besides its many casinos, there are plenty of other things to see and do here. One of those is the Macau Museum, which will teach you all about the Portuguese history of the area.

The ruins of Saint Paul are special. The front of St. Paul's Cathedral is still standing here. The building was destroyed by fire in 1835. This was created after a typhoon. The facade towers over a hill. It can get crowded with tourists. In the evening the ruin is almost completely deserted, and it makes good photos.
