The Leshan Giant Buddha towers 71 meters above you, hewn out of a cliff face in China. You can climb up the cliffs and walk around behind his head to get a good view of this masterpiece.
This imposing structure can be found near the city of Leshan in Sichuan. The statue was initiated by a monk called Haitong, and is carved out of the red cliff face. It was built to protect the ships on the wild rivers around Leshan. You can also get a great view from the river at his feet.
It’s a good place to take photos of the entire Buddha, because it can be tricky to get the entire thing in one shot, considering how large he is.
When you walk around, you will soon notice something. You are constantly very close to the statue. Which makes taking photos difficult. It helps to have a wide-angle lens, the photos will be wonderful, give it a try.
You can also take multiple photos and merge them later in Photoshop, for example. But then you have to take all the photos from the same point without moving too much.
You can also take a boat on the river to get a good view of the statue. You can take a photo of the whole statue.
It can get really busy here. The best time to go is early in the morning or in the late afternoon, when it’s a bit quieter and you can get nice sunlight onto the giant sculpture.
