The Cayman Islands

Tax haven, but also a beach paradise

The Cayman Islands are a known tax haven, but it’s also a paradise for beach and sun lovers, with lots of exciting excursions on offer.

The Cayman Islands are much loved by the wealthy. But even if you have less money you can travel around here. This is the Caribbean at its finest. You will find three islands here: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Grand Cayman is the most famous, but you can easily travel all three by boat. And by seaplane. Read my tips for the best things to see and do on the Cayman Islands.

Stingray City

Stingray City is a famous snorkeling and diving spot. It is located about eight kilometers from the capital George Town. Here you will find numerous stingrays. These animals were discovered decades ago by fishermen, who often gave them their fish waste. Which has made some animals very tame. You can approach them without any problems, just make sure they can always leave if the animals want to.

Seven Mile Beach

The most important place to visit on Grand Cayman is Seven Mile Beach. According to many the most beautiful beach in the world. Access to the beach is free.

Bat Cave

The Bat Cave is a famous cave on the island of Cayman Brac. About 30,000 bats live here, which you can see well. In any case, this is a wonderfully rugged area, where you can go for a hike. You will find spectacular limestone cliffs and rock formations here.

Little Cayman Brac Outlook

If you go hiking on Cayman Brac make sure you go to the Little Cayman Brac Outlook. From this viewpoint you can spot many birds that live here in the brackish water. Also, make sure to visit the lighthouse with its beautiful view.

Las Tortugas

The Cayman Islands. No, the name might suggest you’d be tripping over these reptilians, but its name comes from a certain Christopher Columbus.

This famous explorer discovered the islands on his fourth journey to the New World. He had only seen the two eastern isles and was amazed by the animals he saw there.

He named the islands Las Tortugas after the many sea turtles he saw in the water around the islands. This name eventually changed to ‘Los Lagartos’, which meant ‘the alligators’ because there were many American crocodiles here.

Unfortunately, not many of those are left, but you do find lots of whiptail stingrays and friendly sharks, who are happy to join you for a snorkel
