You might have never heard of this country, but French Guiana is an overseas department of France, and is part of the European Union. Its currency is the euro. The official language is French which most people speak, but regionally many people here speak Guianan Creole.
There is a rich history of the local native south American cultures here, with intriguing names such as the Kaliña, Wayana, Wayampi, Teko and Arawak people.
