One of the most famous cemeteries in the world, including the grave of Eva Peron

The Cementerio de la Recoleta is located in the north of Buenos Aires. It is best known for Eva Peron, the influential wife of former Argentine President Juan Perón. The cemetery is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. A lot of famous residents of the city are buried in La Recoleta.

Recoleta is a posh quarter, but it is also the name of a famous cemetery. Here, many great names out of Argentine history found their final resting place. Since 1882 the cemetery is open to public.

The most famous name is probably Eva Perón, in Spanish-speaking countries also referred to as Evita. For many years, her remains were kept abroad (for instance, in Italy). A number of years ago her remains were buried in the Duartes family tomb. 

Many tombs are made of marble and are exuberantly decorated. At the cemetery you can see many different architectural styles. You can find Cementerio de la Recoleta in the northern part of Buenos Aires.
